The company has two main businesses: shipping and offshore. The shipping business is involved in transportation of crude oil, petroleum products, gas and dry bulk commodities. The offshore business services to the oil companies in carrying out offshore exploration and production activities; through its wholly owned subsidiary Greatship (India) Limited. The shipping business has been awarded the ISO 9001: 2000 standard certification by DNV.

Business Situation
Great Eastern Shipping Co. Ltd. was planning for Disaster Recovery site for their production Applications located in Datacentre at Mumbai. With conventional approach towards Disaster recovery solutions, company was looking for similar hardware and in turn the involved cost of the setup. Reconfiguration of production application at DR site was also a time consuming task.

Solution
With help from Wysetek Systems Technologists Pvt. Ltd, Great Eastern Shipping Co. Ltd used IBM Servers and Vmware Virtual Infrastructure to setup Disaster Recovery Solution. Vmware Capacity Planner tool used to estimate the usage of existing production servers. Vmware Physical to Virtual Converter tool was used to convert existing production servers to corresponding Virtual Machine in turn reducing the efforts of reconfiguring applications at DR site.

While working on Disaster Recovery site Great Eastern Shipping Co. Ltd. realized the need of virtualization at production site. Production servers have been virtualized to reduce the server sprawl in production datacenter and reduce the investment in renewal of AMC of existing servers.
